What is a cable modem?
A cable modem is a small device that connects your computer to the Internet. One end is connected to your computer with either a Universal Serial Bus (USB) or Ethernet cable, and the other to the cable lines outside your home.

Why use a cable modem?
Cable modems allow you to browse the internet much faster than a standard dial-up connection. Downloading large files takes minutes rather than hours compared to regular dial-up connections. Cable modems also provide you with 24/7 access to the Internet.

How does a cable modem connect to a computer?
The cable modem communicates with your computer through a data interface port. Your computer must be equipped with one of two data interface ports, either Universal Serial Bus (USB) or Ethernet.

Can I browse the internet and watch TV at the same time?
Yes, a cable modem will not interfere with your cable television signal since they operate on separate frequencies.

No, you will not need a telephone line. The cable modem will carry both the upstream and downstream signals.

You will receive up to three e-mail accounts with your cable modem service.

Can I send and receive faxes through a cable modem?
No, a fax requires an analog fax modem to operate. However, the right software installed on your computer will allow you to send and receive faxes over the Internet without the need of an analog phone line and fax modem.
